What IS 9537-3 checks

Wall thickness and its tolerance per grade (LMS/MMS/HMS) · outside diameter tolerance · crush and impact resistance · heat deformation · self-extinguishing behaviour · marking requirements (maker, size, grade, licence number printed on the pipe).

How to spot a fake "ISI" pipe

1. No CM/L number printed. A real ISI pipe carries the ISI logo plus a CM/L licence number on the pipe surface. A logo alone means nothing.

2. The number doesn't verify. Look the CM/L up on the BIS portal — the firm name and factory address must match the seller's.

3. Out-of-scope claims. A licence covers specific sizes and grades. If every size in the shop is "ISI", ask which are actually in the licence scope — we publish ours: 20mm & 25mm, LMS/MMS.

ISI Questions, Answered

Is ISI compulsory for PVC conduit?
Many government tenders, PSU projects and reputable builders specify ISI-marked conduit per IS 9537. For private residential work it is optional but the marking is the easiest quality shortcut a buyer has.
Which of your products carry the ISI mark?
20mm and 25mm rigid conduit in LMS and MMS grades, under licence CM/L-7200284611. Other sizes (19mm, 32mm) and HMS grade are made on the same lines to the same published spec tables, without the mark.
How do I verify a BIS licence?
Use the BIS Care app or the "Know Your Licensee" search on the BIS portal (bis.gov.in / manakonline.in) — enter the CM/L number and check the firm name and address match what is printed on the pipe.
What is the difference between ISO 9001 and ISI?
ISO 9001:2015 certifies the factory’s quality management process; the ISI mark certifies the product itself against an Indian Standard. We publish both numbers because serious buyers check both.
